The southern part of Calvert County is experiencing a rash of thefts from auto. Port Republic / St. Leonard / Lusby have been hit the hardest. The crimes are occurring between midnight and 0500 hours.

Last spring there was an episode of vandalism and car break-ins. The police did a good job in putting some of the perpetrators in jail. The word has passed through the grapevine that some of these guys have recently been released and may start again on their thieving habits.

Let’s renew our
vigilance. Please don’t become complacent. Get your family members used to locking doors, securing vehicles, putting our GPS units out of sight, and no purses left on the front seat. If you are in the house, your car keys should be in there with you.

We will stress these precautions again at our Fall Meeting in the Appeal Library on Saturday, October 1st, at 10 AM.

Clean our Beach

Plan to Clean Our Beach: For Healthy Members of Our Community
The Calvert County landfill folks have given us the use of
two “GREEN BOXES”. The huge boxes are now temporarily located at the shore end
of Beach Drive and Cedar Drive. The county will empty them whenever we call, and then put the empty back in place so we can fill it again. These boxes are to be used ONLY for
tree-trash from the beach area. The county can put tree limbs or logs into their chipper, but can not chip treated lumber. Boards, 2 x 4′s and the like, should be piled beside the green boxes for later disposal. Please put only tree trash in the large 20 cubic yard dumpsters. If we mix it up, they won’t take it away.

Regular trash (plastic bottles, Styrofoam, cardboard junk,
etc.), should be placed in large plastic bags and our association will take them to the landfill. Stylish clothing is acceptable for this beach beautification project, but you should consider using gloves for personal protection.

It would be great if some of you would ask for help from your neighbors and work as teams to bring back our beach. See you on the sand,
